Officers responded to a report of a carjacking at the Hamden Plaza, located at 2100 Dixwell Ave., at about 3 p.m. on Friday, March 18.
The Hamden Police Department said a 74-year-old woman was putting purchases in her car when she was thrown to the ground, and three suspects drove away in her car.
The woman was hospitalized with serious injuries, police said.
Police said the stolen vehicle that the suspects arrived in was recovered by officers at the scene.
That vehicle is suspected to have been connected to the theft of a pocketbook from another vehicle earlier that day, authorities said.
New Haven Police later recovered the 74-year-old woman's car, police reported.
Authorities asked anyone with information about the case to call the Hamden Police Department at 203-230-4000.
